Jazz is a Freedom Framework: A Multimedia Installation
During a recent staff meeting, our conversation turned quite passionately to how jazz music has created spaces of reflection, expression, connection and inspiration for so many people and influenced different art forms to develop. Jazz is not only forward-thinking music but also movement. It can also be explored as a framework of social justice considering how fundamental jazz is to understanding Black history and the present and for imagining Black futures not only in the U.S. but around the world.
As we cross over from Black History Month in February to Women’s History Month this March, we are delighted to share here personal reflections and perspectives on jazz by jazz artists and jazz lovers including members of our IofC USA team.
“Jazz is a Freedom Framework“ is a multimedia installation featuring photos, videos and audio as well as story sharing from 9 women jazz artists and collectors who detail how the music is critical to understanding Black history and movements of social justice.
