The Weeks Schedule September 18th to 22nd
Thursday, September 19: Community Conversation
Kicking off the International Peace Week celebration, IofC USA will host a special Intersecting History Community Conversation -“US: A Belonging Beyond Borders," on Thursday, September 19, 2024, 6-8 p.m. at Institute for Contemporary Art at VCU. It will be a conversation designed to examine what it means to be a part of a global community. We are excited to bring together an inclusive panel of Richmonders to engage in a thoughtful discussion exploring the ways culture and the shared human experience connects us all. In a time where the idea of borders has become rigid and focused on specific areas on the map, we look forward to embracing stories that unify us and celebrate the intrinsic value of diverse communities, near and far. Fundamental to IOC's mission of healing and reconciliations, our hope is that people walk away with tangible ways to build deeper, more authentic relationships with the self and each other.
Wednesday, September 18 & Saturday, September 21: International Day of Peace Workshop with the Othering & Belonging Institute
On International Peace Day, IofC USA will be exploring concepts developed by the Othering & Belonging Institute (OBI) to offer a productive, restorative workshop, co-facilitated by Ebony Walden and Matthew Freeman. The workshop will explore othering and belonging frameworks and tools as means to inform individual and community actions around social justice, trust building, and movement building. This workshop will aim to deepen shared understanding of social dynamics and foster a sense of community by exploring learning tools developed by the Othering & Belonging Institute (OBI) followed by structured discussions focused on key concepts.
